Yes, I would be very keen on finding out more - Telemedicine is the "talk of the town" whenever I talk to people in the community!
This project is using smart meters as the communication portal to allow devices placed in patients home to communicate with a GPs practice. It's a really promising area of development because smart meters offer much more security in how they handle patient's data and will also be fixed communication point into homes which counters the trend of fixed phone lines in homes. Challenges faced include establishing industry standards for communication protocols and integrating data collected by patients into electronic health records. We've got a demonstration of this technology planned later this year.

Thanks, Jane, this is really interesting. Where do you see market opportunities for Scottish SMEs in this? Are there any companies already operating in this space? Please keep us up-to-date on the development of the project and if the demonstration of the technology is public - please post this as an event here. Thanks again, Ulrike
