This is a news story from MIT Technology Review. Apparently, Medtronic is working on shrinking pacemakers to the size of a Tic Tac using microelectronics. Due to the reduced size it will be possible to insert the device via a catheter rather than performing invasive surgery. The device may only 5 years away from the market. You can find the story here
