DESCRIPTION:The delivery of health and care using distance technologie
 s is of growing global interest but is of particular relevance to the 
 Highlands & Island of Scotland, where expertise in the field of telehe
 althcare has developed through the combined efforts of academics, busi
 ness people and healthcare professionals.\n\nAs a result, a telehealth
 care summit was held in May 2010, in Inverness, at which a vision of t
 elehealthcare for Scotland in 2020 was developed (http://www.hie.co.uk
 /telehealthcare-summit).\n\nThe vision describes a preventative and pe
 rsonalised approach to healthcare, offering humanistic and convenient 
 healthcare for the general public. It also identifies that a telehealt
 hcare cluster of international standing would result in Scotland becom
 ing one of the healthiest and happiest nations on the globe; quite an 
 aspiration.\n\nA follow on event will take place in Inverness on the 3
 0th Sept and 1st of October to explore how the vision can be reached a
 nd a cluster built. Invited leaders from the Scottish public sector an
 d industry will convene on the 30th September to discuss action planni
 ng to achieve these goals. On the 1st of October, a meeting open to he
 althcare professionals, industry and patient groups will be convened t
 o explore the rise of P4 digital healthcare; the delivery of preventat
 ive, predictive, personalised and participatory healthcare using dista
