The BIA Whistlestop Tours of Biotechnology are an established, effective one-day course that explains the complex science of biotechnology in a simple, enjoyable and memorable way. A bound copy of the course material is made available to each delegate for future reference.
Who should attend?
The training day is ideal for bioscience sector support workers - finance, administrative, human resources, IT, communications and media personnel. It is tailored for staff who do not need to be fully conversant with the complex world of biotechnology but would benefit from a basic understanding of the technologies involved in the industry and be comfortable with the technical language.
The Programme
The interactive course will explain the science of biotechnology, increase understanding of the idiosyncrasies of bioscience organisations and cover a wide range of subjects including:
• The Growth of Biotechnology
• DNA and Protein Structure
• Gene Therapy
• Convergent Technologies
• Transgenic Technology
• Regulatory Process
• Basic Genetics
• Genomics and Proteomics
• Cloning
• Basic Immunology and Monoclonal Antibodies
• Biomanufacturing
Time has been built into the timetable such that subjects can be fully discussed, greatly aiding understanding and retention. The course is delivered to small groups, in a relatively informal setting, ensuring that a high level of interaction is achieved.
